I know everyone else will get here eventually, but in my senior year, I have been struggling with something. This school year has been what we were all waiting for since our first day of elementary school when we were labeled as class of 2025. Crazy to think we’re already there. Time really has flown by, but for some of us, we feel like it’s already over. The classic case of senioritis begins to soak in more and more with every passing day. And now, you may be wondering, “How can I cure this?” and that is exactly what I am going to tell you.
Set Goals for Yourself
I know how easy it is to just cruise by day by day because that is how I spent a lot of high school. Who cares what you do if you just go with the flow and stay out of trouble. However, creating goals, whether they’re academic, social, or sports, you can give yourself something to strive for and build motivation. Personally, I am going to do my best to go to all senior events and keep my grades up to my standards.
Try Something New
Is there something that you have thought about getting involved that you just never seemed to get around to in high school? I recommend getting involved in something you never thought you would or didn’t think you could. Trying a new sport or joining a new club can lead you to a whole new experience. Change is always good for you especially if it’s something that interests you and will help enhance your senior year.
Make the Most of It
I know it sounds really stupid, but I think it makes such a difference if you really try to soak in your senior year. It can be difficult, but going to class events, getting super involved in your clubs/sports, and enjoying every little thing in your senior year can help. It will make you feel happier and encourage you to try just a little harder to live the year to its fullest. If you learn to appreciate it for what it is, you will want to be here so much more.
Get Rest and Stay Focused
Okay, I know I said the last one sounded stupid, but this one does too. Like myself, you may love to go out every weekend and every day after school. However, by doing this, you are quickly losing motivation. People become so focused on everything but school, they forget to take time for themselves to relax and complete their schoolwork sometimes. This can burn you out as you will stay up late and fall behind on work making you not want to try as hard in school. (Yes- may be a little hypocritical for me to say this, but again, I did say I was struggling too in this piece.)
Meet New People
Lastly, I think it’s a good idea to go out and meet new people. It’s our last year and I can guarantee most people already have a solid group of friends. However, with this school year, we have so many new students and so many returning classmates we are yet to really meet. Personally, I have found myself talking to people I never imagined I would and it has made all the difference. Going to school has been enjoyable since I have been getting to know these people and finding out things I never would have imagined had I never gone out of my way to talk to them. Leaving a lasting impression on so many people can be a goal and can motivate you to enjoy your senior year more.
Although it still may hit you hard, these few things can help keep you engaged in your final year at Mount. Senioritis is a scary thing and is so common throughout every single one of us- yes even within the graduating classes before us. However, don’t think it’s unstoppable or inevitable…or do, no one said you have to listen to me.
